Mountain Springs Lake Resort

Our Story

Mountain Springs Lake has been drawing people to its wooded shores for generations.

Before the Resort

A Lake With a History

Long before it became a family resort, the lake was part of the Poconos’ thriving ice-harvesting industry. During the winter, ice was cut from lakes throughout the area, stored in enormous ice houses and shipped by rail to growing cities to the east. Mountain Springs Lake was one of Jackson Township’s important ice-harvesting lakes, and eleven large ice houses once stood along its shoreline.

A Boy, a Hike and a Lake

He Never Forgot It

Years later, a twelve-year-old Jack Rader came across Mountain Springs Lake while hiking toward Big Pocono with a friend.

He never forgot it.

In 1945, Jack’s father, Harold Rader, purchased the property, beginning a new chapter for the lake and the surrounding woodland. Jack and Marjorie Rader would go on to build a life here, welcoming guests and helping Mountain Springs Lake grow into the family resort it is today.

Generations at Mountain Springs Lake

A Family Tradition Grows

Over the decades, the property continued to evolve. Cabins were added among the trees, families returned year after year, and new generations of the Rader family became part of Mountain Springs Lake.

The family also expanded its tradition of hospitality with The Lodge at Mountain Springs Lake. The Lodge became a favorite Pocono fine-dining destination in the early 1980s and evolved over the years into the distinctive wedding and private-event venue it is today.

Much has changed in the Poconos since those early years, but the character of the property at Mountain Springs Lake Resort has remained remarkably consistent: a quiet lake, wooded hillsides, private accommodations and the feeling of getting away from everything without leaving the Poconos behind.

A Place That Still Feels Hidden Away

Leave the Outside World Behind

There is something about arriving at Mountain Springs Lake that feels like discovering a place you thought had disappeared. As you leave the road behind and make your way through the trees, the outside world seems to fall away.

What opens before you is quiet, wooded and wonderfully removed from everyday life, a peaceful retreat that feels much farther away than it really is.

That sense of escape is something the Rader family has worked to preserve. While modern conveniences have been thoughtfully added over the years, the peaceful, private experience at the heart of Mountain Springs Lake remains much as it has for generations.

The Lake Is Still at the Heart of It

A Retreat for Generations

Today, Mountain Springs Lake Resort encompasses 325 wooded acres surrounding a private 76-acre spring-fed lake.

The Rader family continues to care for the property while preserving the natural setting that first captured Jack’s attention as a boy.

For guests, Mountain Springs Lake is more than simply a place to stay. It is a place shaped by history, family and the landscape itself. While modern conveniences have been thoughtfully added over the years, the Rader family has worked to preserve the peaceful, private retreat that has defined Mountain Springs Lake from the beginning, a place where new memories are still being made that will be shared with generations to come.
